About
The then-secretary Mairead Corrigan Maguire was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976, together with Betty Williams, for campaigning against the conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland. That same year, she had witnessed three of her sister's children being killed during a car chase between British soldiers and an IRA man in Belfast. Afterwards, she was contacted by a witness to the incident, Betty Williams. Together they founded a peace organization to end the conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland.
