About

Rajendra Pachauri was head of the IPCC when the organization was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize together with Al Gore in 2007. The Indian economist and engineer chaired the IPCC from 2002 to 2015, the same end year as the start year of the first binding global climate agreement, the Paris Agreement. It was the IPCC's scientific work that laid the foundation for the goal of limiting global warming to between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius. The Paris Agreement was so groundbreaking that the Paris goals are still the great hope in the climate issue. Pachauri himself chose the location for his footprints in the middle of Vågen, the city's most central meeting point. Based on current sea level projections, Pachauri's footprints will end up under water.
